Polybutylene and galvanized pipes don't warn you before they fail. They degrade from the inside — pinhole leaks, rusty water, dropping pressure — until a full replacement is the only answer. A-1 Plumbing & Gas is a licensed repipe specialist serving Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Golden Gate, Marco Island, and Fort Myers. We remove failing poly-B and galvanized systems completely and replace them with PEX or copper, pressure-tested and covered by a written warranty.
A-1 Plumbing & Gas is licensed (CFC1430079) and insured, serving Naples, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and surrounding Collier and Lee County communities. Call (239) 699-3144 for same-day service or a free estimate.

Polybutylene and Galvanized — The Two Pipe Problems Driving Most Southwest Florida Repipes
Southwest Florida was built fast during two construction booms. Homes from the late 1970s through the mid-1990s were plumbed with polybutylene — a gray plastic pipe now known to degrade and fail in chlorinated water. Earlier homes were plumbed with galvanized steel that corrodes from the inside over decades. Both materials have a finite lifespan, and most of those timelines have run out.
Polybutylene (poly-B).
Florida homes built between 1978 and 1995 frequently have poly-B. The pipe becomes brittle with exposure to chlorinated municipal water, develops internal cracks, and fails without warning. Florida homeowner insurers now routinely require disclosure or replacement of poly-B as a condition of coverage.
Galvanized steel.
Pre-1970 construction in Naples, Marco Island, and Golden Gate often used galvanized steel supply lines. After decades, these pipes corrode from the inside, restricting flow to a trickle and releasing rust into the water. Pressure drops, discolored water, and persistent rust staining are the most common symptoms.
Insurance and resale.
A poly-B or galvanized system flagged during a home inspection can kill a sale or trigger a coverage denial. We work with real estate agents and sellers across Collier and Lee County to repipe homes before closing. A repipe before listing removes the issue entirely.
Replace polybutylene pipes with PEX.
PEX handles Florida's mineral-heavy, chlorinated municipal water better than the materials it replaces. Fewer joints, fewer failure points, and a rated lifespan of 50 to 100 years. Our entire repipe crew is Uponor Certified.
Repipe & Polybutylene Replacement FAQs
Do you replace polybutylene pipes with PEX?
Yes. Poly-B to PEX replacement is one of our most common repipe jobs. We remove the entire polybutylene system and replace it with Uponor PEX — pressure-tested, code-compliant, and backed by a written warranty. We serve Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Golden Gate, Marco Island, and Fort Myers.
How do I know if I have polybutylene piping?
Poly-B is a gray (occasionally blue or black) flexible plastic pipe that connects to gray or aluminum crimp fittings. Check under sinks, in utility closets, or near the water heater. If your home was built between 1978 and 1995 in Florida and still has its original plumbing, there is a real chance you have it. We confirm with a free site visit.
How long does a whole-home repipe take?
Most homes take 2 to 5 days depending on size, number of bathrooms, and whether drywall closure is included. The water is off only during specific phases — most homeowners stay in the home throughout the repipe.
What is the ballpark cost for a repipe in Naples?
Cost depends on home size, number of bathrooms, single or two stories, slab or crawlspace, and material choice (PEX or copper). We give a fixed written quote after the site visit — not a range, an exact number you approve before we start.
PEX or copper — which is better for my repipe?
For most Florida homes, PEX is the right call. It handles Florida's mineral-heavy, chlorinated municipal water well, resists pinhole corrosion, and routes through tight spaces with fewer connection points. Copper is a premium option and still excellent. We install both and will walk through the tradeoffs for your home at the estimate visit.
Do you patch the drywall after the repipe?
We coordinate drywall closure as part of the repipe. Some homeowners want us to handle it end-to-end. Others have their own contractor for the drywall work. Both work. The repipe quote includes whichever path you choose.
Do I need a full repipe or just a repair?
If you have one pinhole in copper, a repair is usually the right call. If you have polybutylene anywhere in the home, recurring leaks in the same copper lines, or galvanized pipe restricting flow, a full repipe is the permanent solution. We give an honest assessment at the free estimate and don't push repipes on homes that don't need them.
As Naples's trusted plumbing contractor, A-1 Plumbing & Gas handles every residential and commercial plumbing need in Collier County's largest city. Naples's mix of luxury condos, single-family homes, and waterfront estates demands a plumber who knows Florida construction — slab foundations, aging copper lines, high mineral content water, and coastal salt air that accelerates fixture corrosion. We offer same-day service and 24/7 emergency response throughout Naples.
Bonita Springs sits at the border of Collier and Lee County, and A-1 Plumbing & Gas serves the entire area — from the Imperial River corridor to Bonita Beach Road and the gated communities of Pelican Landing and Coconut Point. Our plumbers handle the same Florida-specific challenges found throughout Southwest Florida: hard water, aging pipes, slab leaks, and gas line work for outdoor kitchens and pool heaters.
Marco Island's waterfront properties face accelerated pipe and fixture corrosion from salt air, and vacation rental turnover puts extra demand on every plumbing system on the island. A-1 Plumbing & Gas serves Marco Island homeowners, condo associations, and vacation rental managers with emergency service, leak detection, water heater replacement, and preventive plumbing maintenance — all by licensed Florida plumbers.
Estero's rapidly growing residential communities, from Miromar Lakes to Bella Terra and Wildcat Run, rely on A-1 Plumbing & Gas for licensed plumbing and gas work. We install natural gas and LP propane lines for outdoor kitchens and generators in newer Estero construction, and we service the aging plumbing in older communities with camera inspections, repiping, and leak detection.
Fort Myers is Lee County's largest city, and A-1 Plumbing & Gas serves the full market — from historic downtown homes with aging galvanized plumbing to the newer developments in south Fort Myers and Gateway. Our licensed techs handle drain cleaning, water heater replacement, sewer line repair, gas line installation for generators and outdoor kitchens, and 24/7 emergency plumbing throughout Fort Myers.
Golden Gate Estates and the Golden Gate City corridor have a higher rate of well water systems and LP propane use than coastal Naples — two specialties where A-1 Plumbing & Gas has deep experience. We install and service well water filtration systems, propane gas lines, water softeners, and all standard residential plumbing for Golden Gate homeowners.
North Naples encompasses some of Collier County's most established residential communities, including Pelican Bay, Tiburon, Mediterra, and Quail Creek. A-1 Plumbing & Gas serves North Naples with high-end fixture installation, whole-home repiping, gas line work for outdoor kitchens, water filtration systems, and emergency plumbing — all with the licensed, certified technicians these communities expect.

What Customers Say
My neighbor in Tall Oaks recommended A-1 Plumbing, I had some serious leaking issues and needed a repipe. From speaking with the owner (Jordan), his secretary Yocelyn and especially the fine work that Thomas, Caden, Walter and Ismael all performed was exemplary. They were all professional, punctual and very respectful. These gentlemen should be considered an asset to the business! I am very thankful for the work done and highly recommend this company!
